Peak District
White Peak and Dark Peak. White named for the pale limestone that underpins the central Peak District with its dales and gently rolling green hills, and lost rivers. Except that is for Chrome Hill, the only real peak in the Peak District! A relic coral reef left behind after erosion of softer limestone around about. The dark refers to the gritstone that forms a ring of very distinct landscapes comprising craggy edges and moors, surrounding the White Peak. A wilder place to walk and lose yourself in the emptiness, with bracken and heather warming the view on a cold windy day.
